Welcome

Dear Students,

I will be out Monday and Tuesday this week taking care of my brother after the surgery he had last week. I hope you all had a wonderful, long weekend. What a blessing to have Friday off, right?! I hope you all had a great weekend. Today, I'm trying to switch things up just a bit and give you some options of new things to work on in different formats. You have a few options of things to work on today. Here they are:

1. Go to the following web site http://www.internet4classrooms.com/skill_builders/reading_comprehension_language_arts_sixth_6th_grade.htm, click on the "Be a Critical Reader" option--it's the first one-- and then work through the questions and activities there. I went through it all yesterday and thought the reading portions were short, but pretty interesting. The questions were straight forward and the feedback they give you is really insightful.

2.  Go to the National Geographic website and explore some of the information about Cleopatra.  http://www.nationalgeographic.com/events/cleopatra/about-exhibit/. There is an audio slide show that explores what they've found under water as well as some background on the legend of Cleopatra.

3. For those of you who've been reading Skeleton Creek, read some the articles/blogs that have been posted on Scholastic's website http://blog.scholastic.com/ink_splot_26/skeleton-creek/.

FOR EVERYONE, DO THE FOLLOWING:

1. Sign in to the email account (given by the sub) to write a comment in reflection to today's activities.

2. Answer the following questions in complete sentences:

-What did you think about using the blog/internet as the source of our lesson today? (Your sentence should start with, "What I thought about using the blog for today's lesson was...")

-How did what you read today relate to things you've learned in other classes? (Your sentence should start with, "What I read today related to _______ that I've learned in other classes. We talked about_______, just like the article talked about_______.)

-What reading skills did you learn/use today? (Your sentence should start with, "The reading skills I used while I read today were_________.")

-Make sure you sign your FIRST NAME ONLY at the end of your post.

If you have trouble responding online, go ahead and write it in your reading journal.

Thanks, everyone.
Miss Sylvester
